ongoing action: Investigate Russia

DEMAND AN INDEPENDENT BIPARTISAN INVESTIGATION!

CALL YOUR ELECTEDS ABOUT RUSSIA NOW!

FBI Director James Comey’s testimony before the House Select Intelligence Committee made one thing clear: America needs a transparent and independent bipartisan investigation of Russian meddling in our election, ASAP.  On Monday, Comey confirmed that the FBI has been investigating the Trump campaign’s possible collusion with Russia since JULY 2016.
He also confirmed that there is “no information that supports [Trump’s] tweet” alleging that he was wiretapped by President Obama.  In other words, Trump lied. AGAIN.

As Rep. Adam Schiff made clear in his opening statement, it strains credulity that National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Carter Page, Roger Stone, Paul Manafort and others ALL had contacts with Russians closely associated with Putin as some sort of coincidence.  There is more to this story. We don’t know all the answers yet.  But we deserve to know them as soon as possible. Before any more damage is done. Our very democracy is at stake.

Even as the newswires roiled at day’s end, Reuters reported that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who as CEO of ExxonMobil was personally awarded the Russian Order of Friendship by Vladimir Putin for his deals with the state-owned Russian oil company, plans to skip a meeting of NATO and visit Russia in April. This is NOT normal.

A cloud of illegitimacy now hangs over the entire White House.  And only a full independent bipartisan inquiry can dispel it.  Three overlapping investigations have differing interests. We can’t be sure that Comey’s secret investigation will get us the answers we need. And the House and Senate investigations are run by elected officials with one eye on their political survival.  We need an independent bipartisan investigation whose primary concern is accountability to the American people.

It’s time to flood the lines like never before.

Who to call: Your senators, your members of Congress, your grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, and your best friend from high school. And Jason Chaffetz, House Oversight Committee Chairman.

If you can’t get through to DC, try your Senators' district offices. All of them.

Script: Hi, my name is… and I am a constituent from… I am calling to ask that the Senator immediately demand an independent bipartisan commission to investigate President Trump’s ties to Russia both during and after his campaign. I also ask that the senator demand the release of Trump’s tax returns to ascertain the extent of his financial ties to Russia. Only an independent body can find the truth about Trump and Russia. A Senate committee led by Richard Burr, a member of the president’s National Security Advisory Council during the campaign, cannot be trusted to fully and transparently conduct this investigation. Our democracy is on the line. We need an independent bipartisan investigation immediately -- with all findings made available to the public.

Script: Hi, my name is… and I am a constituent from… I am calling to ask that the representative immediately demand an independent bipartisan commission to investigate President Trump’s ties to Russia both during and after his campaign. I also ask that the representative demand the release of Trump’s tax returns to ascertain the extent of his financial ties to Russia.  Our democracy is on the line. We need an independent bipartisan investigation immediately -- with all findings made available to the public.

The House Oversight Committee: (202) 225-5074
Rep. Jason Chaffetz, Chair: (202) 225-7751

Script: Hi, my name is… and I am a constituent from… I am calling to ask that the committee immediately insist on an independent bipartisan commission to investigate President Trump’s ties to Russia both during and after his campaign. I also ask that Chairman Chaffetz demand the release of the President’s tax returns to ascertain the extent of his financial ties to Russia. Our democracy is on the line. It is time to put partisan games aside and take a stand for America. In light of Michael Flynn’s resignation and new evidence of ties between the Trump campaign and Russian agents, anything less than an immediate independent investigation is unacceptable.
