Join INBK as we co-host the Bank Street Summer School Summit (S3)
The Bank Street Summer School Summit (S3) is a day-long event for educators, parents and community stakeholders to meet, plan and engage one another about educational policy issues.
Summer school is generally understood to be a place and time to address that which was not addressed during the academic year. Similarly, given the current political climate and related challenges to cultivating justice and equity in school communities, space and time is needed to connect with like-minded educators, plan for the year ahead and humanize the struggles and triumphs in education in order to re/claim schools and communities as safe and supportive spaces that nourish the tenets of democracy.
The Bank Street S3 consists of a morning session in which key ideas and urgencies in the field of education are discussed. The afternoon sessions will provide participants an opportunity to think deeply with a group of interested in others on how to respond to various educational issues and plan next steps on a personal and communal level. The summit seeks to bring people to think, network, and formulate plans for collective action together.
The panel will consist of various stakeholders with an eye on are overarching question, how can an educator be an advocate around issues of policy, while working in the field?
Breakout sessions will focus on how an educator can be an advocate around issues of policy, while working in the field. Sessions will focus on networking and organizing to do work throughout the year with colleagues.
Topic areas include: State/Federal Level Policy, Charter Schools, Assessment and Evaluation, Special Education, Immigration, Budget and Funding, Equity and Excellence for All and School Desegregation.
Panelists and facilitators of breakout sessions are persons who have worked closely around specific policy issues through activism, advocacy and public service. Opportunities to learn more about and join organizations doing good work will also be available via tabling.
